This was an extremely bizarre experience for us, we had had a tour around the yard the previous night learning the history of Edinburgh’s torturous history, and heard of the back ground of the”kirk” yard (Scottish for church) which was built in a valley.
We were told that when it rains, due to the thousands of bodies that were dumped in the mass burial pit due to the plagues, parts of the bodies wash up to the surface to be seen again.

Grey Friars has its own warden who picks up these parts and has his own “larder” to put them in. It’s not advised to pick any body parts up as there are strains of the plague which still exist in the remains, so we settled for taking pictures.
What do you make of it?
